Loved reading this book and highly recommend it! The author's vivid and uncensored writing style places you in the front seat of a rollercoaster adventure that is mental illness and recovery.
This is an amazing book by an amazing woman. I would recommend it to anyone, particularly those who have a mental disorder or know someone who is suffering. The author gives it her all. She takes you to places you never knew existed then brings you back with a new perspective on life. Alana L. Miller
I loved this book, being a Poker player of course helps me understand all the Poker writing in the book. I find all that interesting.
The thing I never really understood is how hard a life someone with a mental illness has. I am glad Simka wrote this book I am sure
it has helped her in her recovery. I recommend this to everyone.
As I have met this writer on my travels, I immediately bought this book once I found out she had written it. There is so much said in this book that I can now see clearly. I have different issues but issues noon the less. Am so happy to call Simka my friend and would recommend this read for anyone.
This was a great read! I saw this book come across my Facebook feed and thought why not. I like poker; I am interested in people who succeed despite challenges. What I didn't expect was for the story to be funny and gripping. I rooted for the author from the first chapter and stayed up late to find out what happened next. Can't wait for volume II.
Being both a poker player and a mental health professional this book was fascinating for me. Some readers might not really get the intensity of the mania and depression the author experiences, but most of us have felt the euphoria of a great winning night and the despair of an undeserved loss to a bunch of donkeys. Just multiply those feelings one hundred fold and imagine how you would cope with that (or not)..
Great read. I finished it in two days. I would have read it faster if I wasn't busy with other stuff. Reading about how Simkha coped with manic-depression was riveting, and that's not easy for a writer to pull off! This book also reads as an adventure involving poker, personal relationships, family drama, and travel. When it comes to relationships, Simkha's most natural connection might be with the English language.
